“North Star” Continues to Complete the assessment of phase 2 of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System ISO 45001:2018 from The British Standards Institution (BSI)
The Occupational Health & Safety Management System based on the International Standard ISO 45001:2018 has been constructed and implemented by “North Star” during Phase 2 of the second cycle (2021-2023). This system serves as a compass for managing occupational safety in general companies and specifically in the construction industry.
The British Standards Institution (BSI) is a leading global certification body for ISO standards, including the upgraded ISO 45001:2018 standard derived from the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard. Up to the present time, “North Star” has received nine consecutive years of certification from BSI for its occupational health and safety management system, including one cycle of adherence to OHAS 18000 and two cycles of adherence to ISO 45000. Over the course of these nine years of maintaining certification, “North Star” has gained numerous benefits from complying with the requirements and meeting the standards, ranging from the absence of occupational accidents to the care for employee health, as well as fostering a consistent "Culture of Safety" among North Star's staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and other relevant parties.
In mid-May 2023, “North Star” successfully completed the Phase 2 monitoring assessment of the ISO 45001:2018 system by BSI evaluators, with a scope covering "Civil and industrial construction, mechanical processing, and installation of technical systems in civil and industrial projects." During the evaluation process, the experienced BSI evaluators conducted a thorough review of compliance with all provisions both in the office and on-site at the projects. The evaluation resulted in three improvement opportunities identified by the evaluators, with no non-compliant points found. Additionally, the evaluators concluded that North Star’s occupational health and safety management system based on the ISO 45001:2018 standard has a very high level of effectiveness in managing occupational safety.
At the end of the assessment session, the leadership representatives, along with the departments and project teams, expressed their gratitude to BSI in general and the evaluating experts in particular for their transparency, professionalism, and thoroughness in the assessment process. They also commended the efforts of the System Management Department, the HSE Department, the project command units, subcontractors, and suppliers for their excellent collaboration in implementing the occupational health and safety policies and objectives. They expressed the desire for continuous improvement to ensure the most comprehensive deployment of the system, creating a professional and safe working environment for employees.
