“Soluble coffee” completes the targets on Occupational Safety during the period of the project
After nearly a year of implementation, the key project Soluble Coffee, has been almost completed. In the last days of the handover, the Board of internal supervisors, System management department, Department of project labor safety, and Project management board have conducted a summary session on occupational safety for the project, thereby reviewing the results of occupational safety activities, the performance of the occupational safety and health system according to ISO 45001:2018 international standard throughout the course of the project.
In the early days of the project, in the course of project plan assessment including: Scope of work, schedule, human resources, equipment, as well as assessment of safety risks and opportunities at the project site, the System management department has appointed and assigned 2 occupational safety officers to take responsibility for managing the occupational safety system at the project.
After approval of the occupational safety plan for the project, the System management department has set out occupational safety targets for the entire project with the focus on: “Zero occupational accidents throughout the course of the project”.
During the project, through the application of the occupational health and safety management system according to the ISO 45001: 2015 international standard to all activities, the project has met all the objectives and targets, towards the consistency of the safety - health - environment policy with the following key achievements:
- Objective: To provide safe and healthy working conditions to prevent work-related injuries and diseases:
+ The project has zero occupational accidents, corresponding to 114,408 hours of safety;
+ No standards of the working environment are beyond the permissible limit;
+ 100% of employees are assigned jobs based on their expertise;
+ No complaints about the unsafe workplace;
+ Safety supervisors have appropriate qualifications and experience;
+ The health and hygiene work is guaranteed in accordance with the number of employees of the project;
+ 100% of employees of the project are checked for health;
- Objective: To eliminate hazards, reduce occupational health and safety risks:
+ 100% of hazards from the project activities are identified, assessed, and applied direct and additional control measures, corresponding to 61 periods of occupational health and safety risk assessments during the project.
+ 100% of tasks are prepared and approved into construction measures to be applied
+ 16 general occupational safety training courses, 19 specialized occupational safety training courses have been organized, corresponding to 100% of staff and employees are trained about occupational safety;
+ There were 562 sessions of daily Toolbox meetings, 61 sessions of risk assessments, 2 consultation sessions, 1 emergency response drill;
+ 100% of employees are equipped with personal protective equipment and instructions for use before entering the construction site.
+ Complete 100% of daily, weekly and monthly safety inspection – report.
+ Entire work permits and safety checklists are checked;
- System improvement objective: In the course of the project, there were 5 improvements in the OHS system, exceeding the set targets
- Objective of consultation participation: There were 3 consultation sessions for employees and representatives at the project, including 1 consultation session on Covid-19 response, and 2 consultation sessions on occupational safety – environmental hygiene.
The results above have shown the experience in the management of occupational safety of the occupational safety board, the scientific cooperation with the project management board, the emergency response team, construction units, contractors, and especially the technicians and employees who directly worked at the project site.
The achievement of the above objectives and targets on occupational safety is also a proof for the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety management system according to the ISO 45001:2018 international standard on the aspect of the project operation and management by the branch in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and entire North Star., JSC in general.
The image of employees leaving safely the construction site after a hard-working day is happiness to those who are in charge of the safety management of "North Star". Every day, "North Star" always thinks, facilitates, and hopes that “the employees” can protect themselves and get protected to return to their beloved family healthily.
